Over a career spanning more than two decades, I've worked across industrial automation, laboratory systems, healthcare technology, cloud infrastructure, and AI-enabled software. My clients don't hire me to fill a box on an org chart. They hire me because complex problems rarely stay inside one box.
The way I think about my work is simple: I'm a solution provider. Whatever the domain, the job is to understand the problem clearly, find the right tools, and build something that actually works for the people using it.
My early career took a path that most engineers don't travel — deep into laboratory and agricultural science systems at Corteva Agriscience, where I led the development of visual inspection platforms for plant and insect research. The hardest part of image analysis, I learned quickly, isn't the software — it's getting the right image in the first place.
I built a camera and lighting selection matrix that reduced prototype iterations dramatically by encoding expert knowledge into a decision framework engineers could actually use. From there I developed segmentation and morphological analysis pipelines in OpenCV for well-defined problems, and collaborated directly with data science teams to train machine learning models for the nuanced ones — like assessing insect morbidity using infrared and UV lighting configurations that revealed physiological states invisible to standard cameras.
I owned the imaging platform end to end, delivered clean and characterized image sets, and served as the translation layer between the physics of optics and the needs of the modeling team. That work also brought me into the laboratory automation space, where I did extensive instrument integration across a range of systems — gaining first-hand experience with protocol scheduling platforms, robotic microplate handling, and the practical challenges of making diverse hardware speak a common language.
From the lab, I moved into industrial automation — spending years as a senior industrial programmer working with PLC, SCADA, HMI, and DCS systems. I specialize in Ignition 8.1 and Ignition Edge, OPC-UA, and MQTT/Sparkplug B, with a focus on edge-to-cloud architecture that connects plant-floor data to modern cloud platforms.
On the IoT architecture side, I developed DIANA — a Distributed Intelligence Adaptive Network Architecture — a three-tier framework that maps industrial intelligence needs to Azure services including IoT Hub, IoT Edge, Stream Analytics, Azure ML, and Digital Twins. It's the kind of structured thinking I bring to every engagement: not just connecting things, but designing systems that are maintainable, observable, and built to grow.
My software engineering roots run deep in .NET and C#, SQL Server, and Azure infrastructure. I've spent significant time in healthcare billing technology — working inside complex claims processing systems, stored procedure optimization, pipeline debugging, and the kind of high-stakes data integrity work where a single logic error can affect millions of records. I approach that work with the same rigor I bring to hardware: understand the system completely before touching it, and leave it better than you found it.
More recently I've been building toward the next frontier — AI-enabled tooling for non-technical users. Athena, a project I've been developing, is a natural language SQL query agent designed to let business users interrogate their data without writing a line of code. It's a direct expression of a philosophy I've held throughout my career: reduce the distance between a person and the insight they need.
If there's a through line across all of it, it's this: I reduce the activation energy between a problem and a solution. Whether that means building a lighting matrix so a biologist can get a usable image, designing an IoT architecture so a plant manager can see their data in the cloud, or writing a natural language interface so an analyst doesn't need to know SQL — the goal is always the same. Make the complex accessible. Build things that work.
